Glenna Mae Long

Glenna Mae Long, 89, of New Philadelphia, passed away Saturday evening, September 6, 2014 in Country Club Retirement Center at Dover.

Born in New Philadelphia on September 16, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Carl A. and Sarah Mae (Harris) Deem.

After graduating from New Philadelphia High School in 1942, she married the late Marion F. Long on June 10, 1944. They enjoyed many years as members of the First United Methodist Church in New Philadelphia where their faith was nurtured. She taught Sunday School there also.

During WWII, Glenna worked for General Telephone as an operator. She was blessed with her daughter, Carla, and devoted her life to raising her and loving her husband.
Glenna also enjoyed playing Bridge with her card club.

She is survived by her daughter, Carla (Michael) Erwin of New Philadelphia; her brother, Don (Jane) Deem of Tuscarawas; her grandchildren, Michele (Ian) Erwin-Kirkwood of Norwood, Colorado and John (fiancé, Melissa Smart) Erwin of New Philadelphia; her great-granddaughter, Grace Avery Erwin-Kirkwood of Norwood; her former granddaughter-in-law, Tiffany Mather of Sandusky; and her cat, Alex.

In addition to her parents and husband, Glenna was preceded in death by her brother, Trevor Carl Deem.

No public visitation or services are scheduled. Cremation will be cared for through Geib’s Tuscarawas Valley Crematory. A graveside service will be held at a later date in Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia.
