Glenn L. Horton, age 78, of Strasburg, Ohio and Lake Placid, Florida, where he wintered, passed away Thursday night, September 25, 2014 in Aultman Hospital Emergency Room following a two and a half year illness.
Glenn was born in East Springfield, Ohio on August 31, 1936, the first son of the late Cris and Larna (Allensworth) Horton. He graduated from Amsterdam High School in 1954, and then served in the U.S. Army from 1955 – 1957. After his discharge from the Army, Glenn began a 39 year career with Ohio Power/ AEP, retiring in 1996 as a Substation Specialist.
Glenn married the love of his life Sondra P. Hennis on August 9, 1957. They had two daughters, Janet (Dennis) Shreffler of Navarre and JoAnn Horton of Fairlawn. Sondra Passed away November 21, 2011. Besides his daughters, Glenn is survived by a brother, Larry Horton of Hartville; a sister-in-law, Mildred Hartley of Akron; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Glenn loved his family and was always willing to lend a hand to any family member or friend who needed assistance. He helped take care of his parents during their lengthy illness. Glenn’s greatest joy in life was visiting with his family and friends in Ohio and Florida.
Like his Dad, Glenn loved to golf. He and his dad attended the Masters Golf Tournament in Augusta, Georgia for many years. Glenn also enjoyed GlenOak football games with his brother, Larry.
Friends will be received in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover, 5600 N. Wooster Avenue Ext, Dover, Ohio 44622, on Wednesday, October 1, 2014 from 2:00 – 4:00 PM and 6:00 – 8:00 PM. A service celebrating Glenn’s life will be held on Thursday, October 2, 2014 at 11 a.m. in the Christ United Methodist Church, 203 Church Street, East Springfield, Ohio 43925, with Pastor Robert Welch officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service in the church. The church, in which Glenn was a life-long member, is also the church where Sondra and Glenn were married over 57 years ago and where their daughters were baptized. Burial with military honors will follow in the East Springfield Cemetery.
