Glenn David Francis passed away on June 2, 2015, in Tampa, FL. His love of life, nature, storytelling, and adventure touched everyone who knew him.
Born in New Philadelphia on May 22, 1925, he was preceded in death by parents, Thomas “Sandy” and Emma (Neiger) Francis; brother, Thomas Francis; brother, Gerald Francis; son, Mark Francis; and his soul mate, astrological twin, and wife of 65 years, Jeanne (Thomas) Francis.
A 1943 graduate of NPHS, Glenn played football for Coach Woody Hayes. He was awarded the Army American Theater Ribbon, FAME Theater Ribbon with 1 Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal, and World War II Victory Medal. Glenn’s career included 38 years at the US Geological Survey as Subdistrict Chief and 22 years for the Army Corps of Engineers. He served on the Board of Elections, and the Tuscarawas County Convention & Visitors Bureau. He worked part time at Montgomery Ward. He was a member of AARP, NRA, American Legion, Life Member of NP VFW, and former treasurer of NP Exchange Club.
Survivors include: daughters Dr. Cynthia (Samuel) Reynolds, Kim (John) Straub; grandchildren Beth (John) Cameron, Brooke Straub, Bert Straub, Wendy (Walt) Callam, and Michelle (Robert) Jackson; step grandsons Samuel (Lovey) Reynolds, and James (Jenna) Reynolds; great grandchildren Lauren (Tony) Salvino; Dylan Cameron, Alexis and Juliette Callam; step great granddaughters Anastasia Reynolds, and Olivia Reynolds.
Glenn will be inurned next to his wife at the Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman, O., following a private family memorial service.
