Glendon “Ray” Tripp, age 74 of New Philadelphia and formerly of Leesville, died Wednesday, September 24, 2008, following a brief illness.A son of the late Herman Ray and Edna C. (Herron) Tripp, Ray was born at Leesville on April 20, 1934.Ray was a graduate of Bowerston High School and was soon drafted into the United States Armed Services. Upon his release from active duty, he served as a Reservist for more than 20 years. On June 21, 1953, Ray married the former Carol Jean Dunlap. Together the couple reared two children and shared more than forty years of marriage prior to her passing in 1995. For many years, the couple enjoyed traveling throughout the country.Following Carol’s passing Ray did not slow down. He also found great joy in watching his grandchildren participate in their sporting activities as well as attending local performances of “Silver Eclipse”, a band in which his grandsons play. He also surrounded himself with many close friends as well as making occasional outings with his friend Ray DeLeon to Mountaineer Race Track.Ray had many other passions in his life as well, whether it be collecting cars and motorcycles, playing with his beloved miniature schnauzers, or working on maintenance projects at one of his many rental properties, Ray was most fond of helping people and would rarely pass up the opportunity to do so.His working career spanned more than three decades with the Gradall Company of New Philadelphia where he worked as a machine inspector up until his retirement.Many may not know however, while in the Army, Ray was filmed as an extra in the Natalie Wood movie, “The Girl He Left Behind.”Additionally, he was a member of the former Leesville Masonic Lodge F & AM and most recently had participated in the Carroll Lodge F & AM.Ray is survived by his two children, Arthur Ray (Jackie) Tripp of Uhrichsville, and Natalie Ann (Jan) Yosick, of Leesville.Six grandchildren, Stephen D. and Christopher Ray Tripp, Tyler, Tab, Trey, and Tanika Rayjean Yosick; as well as two nephews, Kevin and Kendall Tripp complete the family.Ray will also be sadly missed by his beloved Maltese, Tiffany, who was a friend and faithful companion. In addition to his parents and wife, Ray was preceded in death by two brothers Donald and Orwood Tripp.A public inurnment service on will be led by Pastor Scot Caley on Sunday, October 5, 2008, at 12:30 PM in Leesville Cemetery at Leesville.Those unable to attend are invited to share memories of Ray by visiting the online guest registry located on the funeral home’s website.In appreciation for their excellent care and compassion the family requests that memorial contributions in Ray’s name be sent to Hospice of Tuscarawas County, 201 West Third Street, Dover, Ohio 44622.
