Glenda K. Turner

Glenda K. Turner, 89, of New Philadelphia, died Wednesday, December 25, 2002, at Country Club Retirement Center.Born January 4, 1913, in West Lebanon, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Jennie Lehman Kraus. Glenda was married to Oran N. Turner on March 11, 1933. She was a graduate of Dalton High School, then attended Kent State University and became an elementary school teacher. Glenda taught in the in New Philadelphia Elementary School System for 24 years. In 1999, Glenda was honored by the Quaker Foundation with the Outstanding Teacher Award.She was a member of the First United Church of Christ in New Philadelphia, the Ruth Circle, Past President of the Women’s Guild, Tuscarawas County and State Retired Teachers Association, New Philadelphia Garden Club, New Philadelphia Tri Arts, Historical Society of Tuscarawas County, Tuscarawas County and the National AARP. Surviving are two sons, Fred (Beverly) Turner of New Philadelphia and Frank (Barb) Turner of North Canton, a brother, Howard (Judy) Kraus of Canton, three sisters, Elizabeth Finger of Charlotte, North Carolina, Mary Alice Boettler and Nell Erwin both of Cuyahoga Falls; five grandchildren, Todd Turner of N. Canton, Anna (Brian) Barkley of Stillwater, Kathy (John) Meeks of Massillon, Shelley (Tim) Defibaugh of Middleburg, Florida, Staff Sergeant David (Patti) Turner of Iwakuni, Japan and ten great-grandchildren.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death her husband, Oran N. Turner, died October 28, 2001;two brothers and one sister.Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 28, 2002, at 1:30 PM at the First United Church of Christ, 201 Fair Avenue, New Philadelphia, with Rev. Jeffrey Gerber officiating. Burial will follow at Ridgecrest Memory Gardens in Dover. Following the interment, a gathering of family of friends will be held at the Geib Family Center, adjacent to the funeral home.
