Glen R. Byers, age 73, of New Philadelphia and formerly Midvale, passed away Saturday, September 5, 2015 in Hennis Care Center at Bolivar following a period of declining health.
A son of the late John Wensel and Beulah Temple “Boots” (Herron) Byers, Glen was born on March 18, 1942 in Midvale.
Glen was a longtime member of the Midvale United Methodist Church. He was employed with G & G Trucking for a number of years as a truck driver before his retirement. Watching an old western movie, sitting outside on his picnic bench visiting with others, or spending time with his grandchildren were all enjoyable activities for Glen.
He is survived by his daughters, Becky (Larry) Phillips and Traci (Matthew) Smith, both of New Philadelphia; sons, Richard (companion, Lisa Metz) Byers of Midvale, Steve Byers and Mike Byers both of New Philadelphia; daughter-in-law, Gay Byers of New Philadelphia; brother, Robert (Linda) Byers of Dover; grandchildren, Bobi (Eric) Kinsey, Ryan (Christine) Shear, Brittney (Anthony) Frame, Nicole (Nathan) Moreland, Brooke (Ron) Smith, Jr., Justin, Johnny, Brandon, Tyler, and Evan Byers, Rayce (Taylor) Smith, and Maison Smith, Brazen Metz and Heather (Derrick) Corey, and Bridgette (Blake) Kirkbride; 16 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Glen was preceded in death by his grandson, Steven Byers; brothers, Harold and Gene Byers; and his daughter-in-law, Vickie Byers.
Visitation will be held in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home at New Philadelphia on Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. A service celebrating Glen’s life will take place in the funeral home’s chapel on Wednesday at 2 p.m. with Rev. Lyle Warren officiating. Cremation care through Geib’s Tuscarawas Valley Crematory will follow the service, with inurnment to follow in East Avenue Cemetery.
