Glen Lawver

August 28, 1931 — July 16, 2018

Glen Leroy Lawver, age 86, of New Philadelphia died Monday, July 16, 2018.

Born August 28, 1931 in New Philadelphia, he was the son of Wesley E. Sr. and Mary Jane (Thomas) Lawver. Glen attended Roswell Grade School and graduated from New Philadelphia High School with the class of 1950 and began his career at Warner-Swasey in January 1951.

He enlisted in the Air Force in 1951, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. After four years, he was honorably discharged. He was baptized while in the service at Fostepco Baptist Church in Fort Worth, Texas. Following his discharge, he resumed his work at Gradall, retiring after 43 years of service.

Glen enjoyed playing baseball on the American Legion team in the County League. He was a pretty decent bowler; rolled a 298 game once and maintained a 198-average score during his final year of bowling. He was also a member of the Carl C. Stoller Post 1445, New Philadelphia VFW.

On September 19, 1958, he married Bonnie (Grove) Haney and together they shared 57 years of marriage until her death September 4, 2016. Together, Glen and Bonnie never had any children, but Glen claimed his step-son Marvin Dale Haney as his own. He loved Dale and watched him grow and was proud of his achievements. As a family, they took many trips to the beach and traveled to Canada twice.

He is survived by his step-son, Marvin Dale (Barbara) Haney; granddaughters, Gwen Haney and Hope (Jake) Sheahan; great-grandsons, Finn and Theo Sheahan; his brother, William (Faye) Lawver; his sister-in-law, Nancy Lawver and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, Glen was preceded in death by his sisters, Mildred (Simon) Dummermuth, Bernice (Clarence) Rankin, Isabell (Art) Sherrets, Bessie (James) Meryo, Mary Jane (Harold) Cunningham; and his brothers, Wesley (Mary Ann), Howard (Marie), Donald (Della), and Kenneth Lawver.
