Gladys Marie Burrier, age 95 of Port Washington, died peacefully, Saturday, July 18, 2015, in Riverside Manor at Newcomerstown following a period of declining health.
A daughter of the late Godfrey and Martha (Schwab) Glauser, Gladys was born on August 27, 1919 at Lock 17, outside of present day Port Washington, Ohio.
Gladys was a graduate of the former Gnadenhutten High School and on August 31, 1939 married Floyd A. Burrier. The couple raised their family on their farm outside of Port Washington and shared in many of the duties that farming required of them. They shared in 42 years of marriage prior to Floyd’s death in September of 1981.
In addition to her many jobs on the farm, Gladys enjoyed baking, tending to her vegetable garden and canning from its harvest. She also loved tending to her flower gardens, and being an avid quilter. In her younger years, she was a 4-H advisor to the Angel Valley Rosebuds, and member of the Jefferson Grange.
For many years, her faith was nurtured at Grace United Church of Christ, now known as Grace Community Church, at Stone Creek. There she was involved with Bible School and the Women’s Guild.
She is survived by her children, Judy (Harold) Gopp of Canton, Lois Daugherty of Newcomerstown, and Richard (Debbie) Burrier of Port Washington; her grandchildren, Glenda (Shawn) Stallman, Perry (Lisa) Gopp and Richard (Jeannie) Daugherty, M.D. ; her great-grandchildren, Adam, Jacob, Logan, Ryan, Amanda, Richard, Nicholas and Kimberly, and a great-great-granddaughter, Nora.
Other survivors include a brother, Walt (Linda) Glauser; a sister-in-law, Agnes Varadi, numerous nieces and nephews and a special family, Chet and Jen Randolph and their children, Riley, Norah, Ella, and Silas.
In addition to her parents and husband, Gladys was preceded in death by an infant son, Floyd E. Burrier; a grandson, Robbie Daugherty; a son-in-law, Rick Daugherty; an infant brother, Oliver Glauser; a brother, Charles Glauser and a sister, Dorothy Lockett.
The family will greet guests on Tuesday, July 21, 2015 in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home and Crematory from 5:00 – 7:00 PM and again one hour prior to services on Wednesday from 9:30 – 10:30 AM. A service led by Rev. Bob Donato will begin at 10:30 AM on Wednesday in the funeral home’s chapel. Burial will follow in the Stone Creek Cemetery. Following services, all are invited to share in a meal and fellowship in Geib Family Center, adjacent to the funeral home.
