Gladys M. Slemmer, age 77, of New Philadelphia died early Monday, March 23, 2009, in her home surrounded by her family.A daughter of the late Harvey and Laura (Inhurst) Smart, Gladys was born at Ragersville, Ohio on October 3, 1931.On October 23, 1954, she married the love of her life, Donald Slemmer; and together the couple reared four children.Gladys enjoyed many activities throughout her life that included camping and fishing, family gatherings and cook-outs, and of course, attending yard sales and auctions. For a number of decades, Gladys has been a well known voice on WBTC’s morning radio show, “Dial and Deal.”In addition to caring for her family Gladys also enjoyed summertime when she had the opportunity to care for the flower beds that surround her home and tend to her vegetable garden. Gladys also had an unwavering love for the Lord that was shown through her devotion as a longstanding member of The Salvation Army Church and Church of the Living God.She is survived by her husband of fifty four years; three children, Paul (Cynthia) Slemmer, Cindy (Daniel) Barker both of New Philadelphia, and Randy Slemmer of Dover; a sister, Laura Tice of Dover; and a brother, Oscar Smart of New Philadelphia.Ten grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews complete the family.In addition to her parents, Gladys was preceded in death by a son, Donald E. Slemmer; four brothers and seven sisters.The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 25, 2009, from 5:00 â?? 7:00 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. Pastor Bob Jones will lead a service celebrating Gladys’s life on Thursday, March 26, 2009, at 10:30 AM in the funeral home’s chapel. Burial will follow in the Dover Burial Park. The family would like to invite guests to join them in the Church of the Living God at New Philadelphia following services where a meal will be shared.Those unable to attend are invited to share personal condolences with the family by signing the online guest registry located on the funeral home’s website.Memorial contributions in Gladys’s name may be sent to the Church of the Living God, 1440 5th Street NW, New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663.
