Gladys Eilene Flauhaus, age 87, of New Dawn Health Care Center at Dover, and formerly of New Philadelphia, died peacefully early Sunday morning, June 8, 2008. Born at Magnolia, January 28, 1921, she was a daughter of the late Grant and Florence Sparks Dolvin. Gladys will be remembered for her dedication as a caregiver and wife. Following graduation from Magnolia High School, Gladys received nurses training from the Delaware State School of Nursing. She then completed her post-graduate work in surgical nursing and worked at the Cook County Hospital of Chicago, Illinois. Later in life Gladys returned to the Tuscarawas Valley to care for her parents. A member of the First United Methodist Church at New Philadelphia, Gladys taught Sunday School for many years and was a former district vice president of the United Methodist Women. In her spare time, Gladys enjoyed traveling extensively, especially to Alaska. She enjoyed playing golf and spending time together with her husband. Gladys was also an accomplished gardener. Her summertime flower gardens often attracted admirers from near and far. On October 24, 1981, Gladys married the Reverend Lester Flauhaus. The couple took excellent care of one another. Reverend Flauhaus called Gladys “a lady of excellent character” â?? and noted that Gladys enriched the life of her husband as a special and caring loving wife. In addition to her husband, Gladys leaves behind a family that includes two brothers; Rev. Dr. Jay (Grace) Dolvin of Massillon, and Carl Willis (Voneta) Dolvin of New Cumberland, a sister; Dorothy Aston of Dover, and special friends and caregivers; Rheba Rainsberger and Pauline Quillin, both of New Philadelphia.In addition to her parents, Gladys is preceded in death by her two brothers; Donald and Dennis Dolvin, a sister; Agnes Traynor, and her black lab; Rex. Friends are invited to call Wednesday, June 11, 2008, from 4PM â?? 7PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. The Revered Doctors Steven R. Bailey and Jay Dolvin will co-officiate the funeral ceremony for Mrs. Flauhaus Thursday at 10:30 in the sanctuary of First United Methodist Church at New Philadelphia. Burial will follow in Dover Burial Park. A reception will follow for family and friends in J.I.M.’s Place.
