Ginny Lou Brick, 54, of New Philadelphia passed away Monday, March 6, 2006 surrounded by her family after a 9 year courageous and hard fought battle with cancer. Born October 6, 1951 in Dover, she was the daughter of Beatrice (Lengler) and the late Milton Blickensderfer. Ginny graduated from Dover High School and worked in retail for more than 30 years, including Quality Farm and Fleet, and most recently at Jay’s Hallmark where she enjoyed working with people.She was a member of the First United Church of Christ, the American Cancer Society where she was a Reach to Recovery volunteer, active in Relay for Life and a member of the Faces of Hope support group. Ginny was also a Girl Scout leader, participated with 4-H, involved in Big Brothers & Big Sisters and the March of Dimes, and was a member of the Modern Homemakers for more than 20 years. In 1999, she was named Homemaker of the Year.Ginny also enjoyed working with flowers and could often be found at the YMCA exercising. Most importantly, Ginny loved spending time with her family who she was very close with.On July 20, 1973, Ginny married the love of her life, Gary A. Brick. They would have celebrated their 33rd wedding anniversary this year. Along with her husband and mother, Ginny is survived by her daughter, Ginger (Robert) Cooper of New Philadelphia; her grandson, Nathan Cooper of Coshocton; three sisters, Judy (Tom) Karl of New Philadelphia, Cynthia (Kenny) Ryan and Sandy (Roger) Ray, all of Dover; mother-in-law, Ruth Brick of New Philadelphia; brothers-in-law, Fritz (April) Brick and Terry (Paula) Brick, all of New Philadelphia; sisters-in-law, Debbie (Homer) Heartkey of Dover and Diane (Harold) Davis of Marysville; numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews; and her beloved dog, Gabbi.In addition to her father, Ginny was preceded in death by her dear friend, Marlene Wallace; her sister-in-law, Judy Brick; and her father-in-law, Milton Brick.Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 9, 2006 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home at New Philadelphia. A funeral service will be held at the First United Church of Christ in New Philadelphia on Friday at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Jeffrey Gerber and Jill Lovett officiating. Burial will follow at East Avenue Cemetery. Family and friends are invited back to the church after the committal service where a luncheon will be served by Ginny’s church family.In recognition of her faith and tenacious struggle with cancer, the family requests memorial contributions be made to one of the following organizations: the First United Church of Christ, 201 Fair Ave. NW, New Philadelphia, OH 44663 or the American Cancer Society, 201-A W.
