Gerald “Jerry” Reece Edwards, age 81, of New Philadelphia died Thursday, March 15, 2012, in Aultman Woodlawn at Canton after suffering a stroke on March 4th.

A son of the late Clayton and Lucille (Robeson) Edwards, Jerry was born at New Philadelphia on July 28, 1930.

He was a graduate of New Philadelphia High School and entered into the United States Army where he was a member of the 101st Screaming Eagles Airborne Division.

Jerry was employed as an electrical engineer with Rockwell International where his job led him to have the opportunity to travel all over the world. He was a member of the New Philadelphia B.P.O. Elks Lodge #510 and the New Philadelphia VFW, Carl C. Stoller Post 1445.

Jerry was competitive in all that he did. He looked forward to golfing with his brother and friends and trap and target shooting with his grandson and brother-in-law.

He is survived by two daughters, Kathy Evans of Hartford, CT and Kim Favret of Eugene, OR; a son, Craig (Sue) Edwards of Dover; a brother, Clair (Bev) Edwards; a brother-in-law, Fred Turner; and two sisters-in-law, Ruth Edwards and Maxine Edwards all of New Philadelphia.

Five granddaughters, Kelly, Megan, Breanne, Jane and Andrea; two grandsons, Drew and Adam as well as numerous nieces and nephews complete the family.

In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by two sisters, Lillian Burrier and Beverly Turner and two brothers, Robert Edwards and Paul Edwards.

The family will receive guests on Tuesday, March 20, 2012 from 4:00 – 7:00 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. In keeping with Jerry’s wishes, services and burial in the Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia will be held privately.

Memorial contributions in Jerry’s name may be directed to B.P.O. Elks Lodge #510, 1180 Union Avenue, New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663.
