Gerald Dean Young

Gerald D. “Buzzy” Young, 92, of New Philadelphia, passed away peacefully with his family at his side in the Hospice House on Saturday, August 10, 2013.

Born in Midvale on July 24, 1921, he was the son of the late James F. and Eva L. (Carpenter) Young.

After graduating from Midvale High School in 1941, Buzzy joined the United States Army, where he honorably served his country for 4 years during World War II. He was also the recipient of the Purple Heart.

Buzzy spent his professional career working for the federal government as a mine inspector. After retirement from the federal government, Buzzy continued to share his knowledge as an inspector with state government.

On January 21, 1947, Buzzy married his loving wife, the former Lena V. Albertine. Together, they greatly enjoyed loving and nurturing their numerous nieces and nephews. Buzzy had a passion for fishing, camping, and golfing, all hobbies he enjoyed participating in with his family.

Buzzy is survived by Lena; his sister, Mary Brewer; his brother-in-law, John R. West; sister-in-law, Virginia Albertine; nieces and nephews, Pat (Jim) Troyer, Betty (Dave) Angel, Becky (Gary) Pittis, Mary (Zack) Space, David (Shari) Wade, Vicky (Donnie) Lautzenheiser, Melinda Renner, Shirley Kidd, Bobby (Carolyn) Vaughn, Valerie (Butch) Kalp, Becky Keesey, Vera Sue (James) Allerdyce, Maureen (Steve) Friedman, Cindie (Terry) Norris, Fred (Ginger) Albertine, Jerry (Trina) Albertine, and Marcey Albertine; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews who dearly loved him.

In addition to his parents, Buzzy was preceded in death by his siblings, Vella Belle Vaughn, Betty Schlarb, and Jimmy Young; and his nieces and nephews, Jeanie Pickering, Cindy Schlarb, Virgil Albertine, Marion Albertine, Ronald Albertine, and Dick West.

Visitation will be held in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia on Monday, August 12, 2013 from 5 to 8 p.m. A service celebrating his life will be held in the funeral home’s chapel on Tuesday beginning at 10:30 a.m. with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia.
