Gerald Bevan

Gerald “Jerry” L. Bevan, 77, of New Philadelphia passed away on March 23, 2012 at Mercy Medical Center following a period of declining health.

He was born November 3, 1934 at New Philadelphia to the late William H. and Dorothy P. (Hager) Bevan of New Philadelphia.

He attended New Philadelphia schools and entered into the United States Army in 1957, where he was stationed in Erlangen, Germany. On November 23, 1957, Jerry married the former Barbara E. Bennett.

He worked at Robinson Clay and retired from AK Steel. Jerry was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Veterans of Foreign War, Sacred Heart Church, the Tuscarawas County Coin Club, and was an avid supporter of the Tuscarawas Central Catholic Booster Club. He loved to play golf and made three holes-in-one.

Jerry is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara, and four loving children; Deborah Bevan, Tammi (Derek) Trachsel, and Molly (Ken) Krese, all of New Philadelphia, and Scott (Janel) Bevan of Bolivar. He is also survived by seven adoring grandchildren including Erin Bevan, Dane and Kori Trachsel, Kayla, Jeremy, and Alexis Krese, Ava Bevan, and another grandson, Wyatt, expected soon.

Jerry’s family also includes his seven close siblings; Paul (Beth) Bevan of Altus, OK; William “Bill” Bevan, Jr. of New Philadelpia; Cherie (Joseph) Conidi of Dover; Patricia Powell of Dover; Robert (Betty) Bevan of New Philadelphia; Ronald “Butch” (Ginny) Bevan of New Philadelphia; and Jill Clark of Canton; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Monday, March, 26, 2012 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory in New Philadelphia. The Rosary will be said at 7:45 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Jeff Coning in Sacred Heart Church on Tuesday beginning at 10 a.m. A meal will follow mass in St. Ambrose Hall.

A private inurnment will be held in Calvary Cemetery at New Philadelphia where the New Philadelphia V.F.W. Post #1445 will render military honors.

Jerry’s family requests donations in his memory be directed to either Sacred Heart Church, 139 3rd NE, New Philadelphia, OH 44663 or Tuscarawas Central Catholic Booster Club, 777 Third Street NE, New Philadelphia, OH 44663.
