George T. Menges, age 56, of New Philadelphia, died unexpectedly Sunday morning, October 15, 2006, in Union Hospital at Dover, the result of an apparent heart attack. Born at Dover, February 2, 1950, George was a son of the late Lawrence Willard Menges and Mary Alice Patterson Menges. George graduated from New Philadelphia High School with the class of 1969 and immediately entered the United States Navy. While stationed at San Francisco, he met and fell in love with the former Judy Ackerly. The couple wed May 7, 1971, and would reside on the west coast until his retirement from the Navy in1988 when George and Judy took up residence in the Tuscarawas Valley. At the time of his death, Mr. Menges was affiliated with Caraustar Packaging at Strasburg.Survivors, in addition to his wife of the home, include two daughters, Kimberly Menges and her companion Cory Horkey of Sugarcreek, and Loretta Menges of New Philadelphia Â? both of whom will very much miss their father, and hold fond memories of family camping trips in California, and of his enjoyment of sports teams like the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Cleveland Browns to the Cleveland Indians and even N.A.S.C.A.R. drivers and their pit-crews. Two grandchildren, Dakota Ross of New Philadelphia, and Alexis Mast of Fort Bragg, North Carolina, as well as two sisters, Wanda Bertoline of New Philadelphia, and Gladys Kerns of Uhrichsville, and numerous nieces and nephews complete the family. In addition to his parents, Mr. Menges is preceded in death by his brother, Lawrence W. Menges, Jr. Friends are invited to call Wednesday afternoon, October 18, from 4PM until 6PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. Cremation will follow through the care of Geib’s Tuscarawas Valley Crematory. Private Inurnment services will follow at Western Reserve National Cemetery.
