George Raymond Roland

George R. Roland, age 78, of New Philadelphia and formerly of Dover died peacefully on Tuesday, August 24, 2010, in Schoenbrunn Health Care Center at New Philadelphia.A son of the late Elinore Omet Roland and George and Mary Roland, he was born in Women’s Hospital at New York, New York on May 16, 1932.George was baptized into the Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church of Washington Heights at New York on July 3, 1932, and later attended the Methodist Church at Fort Lee, New Jersey.As a young man, George enjoyed playing Bingo at Palisades Park prior to relocating to the Tuscarawas Valley. He also enjoyed watching television and going on fishing trips.In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by a step-sister and step-brother-in-law, Patricia and Samuel Tornabene.Visitation will be held one hour prior to services on Friday, August 27, 2010, from 10 to 11 AM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. Rev. Dr. Steven Bailey will lead a celebration of George’s life at 11AM on Friday in the funeral home’s chapel. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery at New Philadelphia.Following services, friends are invited to return to the Geib Family Center, adjacent to the New Philadelphia funeral home, where a meal and fellowship will be shared.Those unable to attend are encouraged to share condolences by signing the online guest registry located on the funeral home’s website.
