George R. Rooks , age 80, of Gnadenhutten, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 8, 2010, following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born June 18, 1930, at Brooksville, Florida, and was the son of the late Margaret Mamie Rooks.George served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was employed by US Concrete in Uhrichsville for 28 years. He was also employed by Clay Township until his retirement.George was known to many of his friends as “Slim”. He loved hunting and fishing with his sons, working on cars, tending to his many gardens, and watching football and NASCAR races. He was always there to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it. He also loved reading. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.George will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 55 years, Eula V. (Kuhn) Rooks whom he married on February 11, 1956. Also surviving are his children, Marguerite Rooks of New Philadelphia, Marsha Harrington of Gnadenhutten, George (Traci) Rooks of Gnadenhutten and daughter-in-law Carrie Rooks of Gnadenhutten, brother-in-law Steve (Darlene) Kuhn of Lake Bay, WA., sisters-in-law Elizabeth McFall of Follansbee, WV and Ethel (Bill) DiPaolo of Akron.Eleven grandchildren include Amanda Rooks, Adam (Kayla) Rooks, Jeremy (Amber) Gartrell, Andrew Gartrell and companion Aubri, Lindsey (Ricky) Twardoski, Ashley and Hunter Rooks, Kristen, Nicole, Samantha and Ethan Harrington. Seven great-grandchildren include Madison and Grace Norman, Micah Heil, Adam, Karlee and Austin Rooks and Emma Harrington.George is preceded in death by his son, Richard Allen Rooks and his faithful dog, Lovey.In keeping with George’s wishes, he will be cremated and there will be no calling hours or service. A private family service will be held at a later date.He has also requested that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made in his memory to Community Hospice of Tuscarawas County, 201 West Third Street Dover, Ohio 44622.
