George J Popa

George J. Popa, age 83, of Dover passed away Saturday, October 11, 2008 in Hennis Care Center at Dover following a lengthy illness.Born April 14, 1925 in New Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Jacob and Emma (Stoll) Popa. After graduating from New Philadelphia High School, George honorably served our country in the United States Army from 1943 to 1946. He then began his professional career working at Nichols Discount for 11 years, Pepsi Cola Co., The Daily Reporter and ultimately retiring from K Mart.George was a faithful member at Sacred Hearth Church. He was also a passionate and committed fan of the New Philadelphia Quakers and Notre Dame Fighting Irish football teams. Other interests of his included coaching Little League at Tuscora Park, golfing, and visiting Las Vegas on a frequent basis with his family. He is survived by his loving daughter, Emmy (husband, David) Morgan of Clinton, Ohio; his grandchildren, Nathan Popa of Canton, Jeff (wife, Jodi) Morgan of Hudson and Gary (wife, Michelle) Morgan of California; and a niece and nephew, Carol (husband Richard) Harmon and Larry (wife, Linda) Fisher, both of Bolivar.In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his sister, Anna Belle Fisher.Visitation will be held in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia on Wednesday, October 15 from 5 to 8 p.m. Msgr. George J. Schlegel will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial at Sacred Heart Church on Thursday beginning at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery at New Philadelphia where the New Philadelphia V.F.W.
