George G. Briggs, Sr., 78, of Wainright, Ohio, died Sunday April 25, 2004, at Union Hospital in Dover following an extended illness. Born in Goshen, Ohio on September 15, 1925, George was the son of the late Clint and Isafina Briggs and a life resident of the area.George was a WWII army veteran, member of the 279th combat engineers and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He also belonged to the Tuscarawas V. F. W. Post 7943, the Uhrichsville Moose Lodge No. 740, had been a member of the former New Philadelphia Eagles and was an avid Cleveland Browns and Indians, and Ohio State Buckeye’s fan.Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Georgia Ann Briggs, a son, George G. (Dugan) Briggs, Jr. of Wainright, a step-son, Jerry L. Grove of Tuscarawas, grandchildren, Jason L. Briggs of Newcomerstown, Amanda Sue Briggs of Uhrichsville and Scott Mathew Grove of Gnadenhutten, and six great grandchildren.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters.Private family funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 28, 2004, 1:00PM at the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home and Crematory, New Philadelphia with Elder Glenn R. Carlilse officiating. Family are invited to attend visitation Wednesday at the funeral home from Noon until 1:00PM. Burial at East Avenue Cemetery, New Philadelphia will follow the service.
