George Cerveni III

George Cerveni III, 64, of New Philadelphia, died Saturday, May 16, 2009 in Union Hospital at Dover following a lengthy illness.A son of the late George Cerveni Jr and Joicy (Wilamont) Cerveni, George was born April 17, 1945 at Kidderminster, England.George graduated in 1963 from Midvale High School and he was a member of Grace Lutheran Church at Dover. On May 22, 1966 in Emmanuel Lutheran Church at New Philadelphia, he married the former Lynn Watson. Together the couple reared a daughter, Krista.Anyone who knew George was aware of his love for Corvette’s, including his own 1973 Corvette. Prior to his illness, which started in 2001, he and Lynn would take his pride and joy to numerous cars shows and cruise-ins.He was an avid collector of car items. George had an extensive collection of Corvette die cast cars as well as a collection of NHRA and NASCAR collectible cars.George is survived by his wife of nearly 43 years, Lynn Cerveni; his daughter, Krista Cerveni of New Philadelphia; his mother-in-law, Eleanor Watson of New Philadelphia; a sister-in-law, Cindy (Bob) Mathias of New Philadelphia; two aunts, Helen Blackson of Dover and Irene Moss of New Philadelphia and his beloved dogs, Emma and Maggie.He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant nephew, Daniel Mathias.In keeping with George’s wishes, cremation will take place and his family will receive guests on Thursday, May 21, 2009 from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. A memorial service celebrating George’s life will follow at 7 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Hugh Berry officiating.
