George B. Monigold, 82, of Bowerston, died Friday, January 10, 2002 at his residence. Born in Steubenville, he was the son of the late George E. and Jenny Hart Monigold and was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran having served during W.W.II as crew chief for General Jimmy Doolittle. He had retired from the Bowerston Shale Company and was a member of the Bowerston American Legion Post 581, a fifty-year member of the Masonic Lodge in Leesville, was a former little league coach with the Bowerston Cubs and was an avid hunter and fisherman.His wife, Ruth C. Monigold, preceded him in June 1995. Surviving are two daughters, Amy (Earl) Gysan of Inverness, Florida and Nancy (William) Tope of New Philadelphia; two sons, Jim (Beth) Monigold of Bowerston and Mike Monigold of New Philadelphia; a sister Jenny McLandsborough of Bowerston; seven grandchildren, Jim Monigold II, Jean Siedel, Jill Putnam, John Monigold, Tim Gysan, Christy Gysan and Sarah Manson and two great grandchildren, Amber and Austin Monigold.Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 15, 2003 at 11 Am at the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home in New Philadelphia with Rev. Steve McGuigan and Rev. John Johnson officiating. Burial will be at Longview Cemetery in Bowerston. Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 14, 2002 from 4 to 7 PM in the funeral home.
