George A. Christner 81, of Stone Creek, died Friday, July 15, 2005, at Union Hospital in Dover.A son of the late William & Hazel Lint Christner, George was born December 7, 1923 in Baltic Ohio. A life long resident of Tuscarawas County, he graduated from Baltic High School in 1942 and was inducted into the U.S. Army in December 1944. George served in the Asiatic-Pacific theatre during WW II receiving two Bronze Stars. He worked for the Bill Hawk Company for over 30 years as a pipeline superintendent.An avid sports fan George followed closely, both the Cleveland Cavaliers basketball team and the Pittsburgh Steelers Football team. In his spare time he enjoyed hunting and watching deer and other wild animals.George is survived by two daughters, Cindy (Cliff Smitley) Conkle of Stone Creek, O. and Becky (William) Gross of New Philadelphia; two granddaughters, Heather (Justin) Agar and Stephanie (John) Levengood, and one great granddaughter, Hanna Levengood, all of New Philaelphia.In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife Mary Evelyn Page Christner whom he married January 11, 1947, one son Billy Christner, and one sister Norma Jean Ott.Visitation will be Monday July 18, 2005 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. Services will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Chapel, with the Rev. William Haggis Sr. officiating. Burial will be at East Ave. Cemetery in New Philadelphia.A reception will be held at the Geib Family center following the committal.Memorial contributions honoring George’s life may be made to the Zion Lutheran Church P.O.
