Geneva Ickes, 96, of New Dawn Retirement Center at Dover, died Friday evening, May 11, 2018 while under the care of Crossroads Hospice.
Born at New Philadelphia on October 30,1921, Geneva was a daughter of the late Harry B. and Hazel B. (Dunffee) Rush.
Following graduation from the former Uhrichsville High School, Geneva entered the workforce during World War, II as a “Rosie the Riveter” and worked for Tyson Roller Bearing and later for Republic Steel, where she made tank plates. After the war, Geneva worked for many years at the former Scio Pottery.
Geneva loved being a homemaker and caregiver and was known for her delicious Angel Food Cakes. She had a talent for hand embroidering quilts and working word find puzzles.
She will be sadly missed by her son and daughter-in-law, Ross and Angie Stamm of New Philadelphia; two grandchildren, Matthew (Donna) Stamm of Loudonville and Rachel (James Pietro) Stamm of New Philadelphia. She was proud to have lived long enough to meet her first great-grandson, Hilton Robert Pietro.
In addition to her parents, Geneva was preceded in death by her husband, Junior F. Ickes, whom she married in 1957 and preceded her in death on January 9, 1981; and her sister, Margaret Rush.
The family will greet guests on Tuesday, May 15, 2018 from 12:30 – 1:30 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia where Deacon Ron Onslow will lead a service celebrating her life in the funeral home’s chapel at 1:30 PM. Burial at Evergreen Burial Park will follow.
Instead of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions in Geneva’s name be directed to Crossroads Hospice, 3743 Boettler Oaks Drive, Uniontown, Ohio, 44685 or to Sacred Heart Building Fund, 139 Third Street NE, New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663.
