Gene William Cargnel

Gene William Cargnel, 80, of Dover, died Thursday, December 22, 2011 in Union Hospital at Dover following a period of declining health.A son of the late Geno and Lottie (Gladstone) Cargnel, Gene was born June 21, 1931 at Roswell, Ohio.Gene graduated from New Philadelphia High School in 1949. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and served in Gemany during the Korean Conflict. Gene was a retired letter carrier having worked out of the Dover Post Office for many years.On October 1, 1966, Gene married the love of his life, the former Janet Albaugh and together the couple raised two children, Christine and Shawn.He was an avid fisherman. Gene enjoyed fishing at Leesville and Tappan Lakes and also made many trips to Canada. He also enjoyed antiquing with Janet as well as tending to his gardens. Gene’s greatest passion is life was his grandchildren and he especially enjoyed attending their baseball and softball games and track meets. He was also a faithful Ohio sports fan and enjoyed following the Buckeyes, Browns, Cavs and Indians.Surviving are his wife of 45 years, Janet, his children, Christine Green of Dover and Shawn (Anissa) Cargnel of Uhrichsville; his grandchildren, John Mulby, Victor Mulby, Carina Green and Dean Green III all of Dover; three brothers, Richard Cargnel of New Philadelphia, Jerry (Sherry) Cargnel of New Philadelphia and Jack Cargnel of Dover; a brother-in-law, John Albaugh of Circleville; a sister-in-law, Joan (John) Neighbor of Dover; and numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family members.Gene was preceded in death by his parents; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ed and Mary Albaugh; two sisters-in-law, Merrill Cargnel and Myrna Albaugh; two nephews, Mark Cargnel and Eric Albaugh and his best friend, his dog, Charles.In keeping with Gene’s wishes, there will be no calling hours or services and cremation will take place through the care of Geib’s Tuscarawas Valley Crematory at Dover.Contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice in memory of a very nice guy, Gene.
