Gene Lewis Brown

April 11, 1932 — October 10, 2013

Gene Lewis Brown, 81, of New Philadelphia passed away October 10, 2013 at the Community Hospice House, surrounded by his family and friends.

Born April 11, 1932, in Uhrichsville, he was the son of the late Josephine (Griffen) Brown Kohler and Oscar Kohler and his late father, Herbert Brown.

Gene married his wife, Myrtle (McNutt) Brown on February 27, 1959 in the First Church of the Brethren at New Philadelphia.

He was a wonderful person always concerned about helping friends and family in need. His devotion never waivered.

Gene was in the United States Army where he honorably served his country during the Korean Conflict. He also retired from the Dover Post Office.

In addition to his wife, he was survived by his children, Rex (Pam) Brown, Jeannie (Jack)Walton, Tammie (Rickie) Peterman, Debbie (John) Ward; grandchildren, Rex Brown Jr., Wes Brown, Jeremy Brown, Michael Bell II, Nicole Ward Guardiolia, Heather Ward, Brooke and Brittany Ward, and Abby Ward; and great-grandchildren, Logan and Zoey Brown, and Sebastian Guardiolia.

Other family includes 3 step-grandchildren, Angie Bosler, Tom Rothacher Jr., and Stacy Robinson; and numerous step-great-grandchildren; step-granddaughter, Nicole Walton; step-sister, Helen Lute; sisters-in-law, Ada (Ivan) Beitzel and Norma McNutt

In addition to his parents and step-father, he was preceded in death by a step-son, Tom D. Rothacher, step-grandchild, Kristy Rothacher; sisters, Elaine McClanahan and Ruth McDaniels; step-sisters, Audrey Corpman, Betty Keim, and Glenda Parson; brothers-in-law, Clyde McNutt, Roy (Helen) McNutt, and Robert McNutt; his father and mother-in-law, Roy (Sylvia) McNutt.

Visitation will be held Monday, October 14, 2013 from 1 to 2 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. A service will be held in the funeral home chapel beginning at 2 p.m. Burial will follow in Ridgecrest Memory Gardens at Dover.
