Gene Joseph Tarulli

February 22, 1921 — March 14, 2012

Gene Joseph Tarulli, age 91, of Country Club Retirement Center at Dover and formerly of New Philadelphia, died Wednesday, March 14, 2012, with his family by his side.

Born at Pratola Peligna, Italy on February 22, 1921, Gene was a son of the late Chester and Lucia (DiNino) Tarulli.

On February 4, 1942, Gene married the love of his life, the former Jeanette L. Cicconetti and reared three children.

From an early age, Gene understood the value of a strong work ethic. During America’s Great Depression, he served 18 months with the Civilian Conservation Corps prior to entering into the United States Navy. During World War II he was stationed at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii where his unit was one of the first assigned to care for and assist in the development of the sonar systems used in submarines.

After the war, he entered the U.S. Navy Reserves and was called into active duty during the Korean Conflict where he was stationed at the Naval Submarine Base at New London, Connecticut. Upon his discharge, he served the Gradall Company at New Philadelphia for 30 years as an industrial engineer until his retirement in 1983.

Gene was a long-time member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church at New Philadelphia and an avid golfer. His other hobbies and interests included gardening and photography.

In addition to his wife of 70 years, Gene is survived by a daughter, Nancy (Greg) Rees of New Philadelphia; two sons, Richard L. (Nancy) Tarulli of Boston, Massachusetts, and John Tarulli of New Philadelphia; two brothers, Pat (Maggie) Tarulli of Dover and Chester (Julia) Tarulli of New Philadelphia, and two sisters, Clara (Delbert) Nething of Canton, Ohio and Rita Amick of Lakeland, Florida.

Completing the family are five grandchildren; Scott, Jason, Marc and Geoff Tarulli, and Stephanie Cable and three great-grandchildren; Caylie and Cara Cable and Zaryn Tarulli as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by an infant son, Terry Michael Tarulli and three brothers, Tom, John and Dean Tarulli.

The family will receive friends on Friday, March 16, 2012 from 4-7 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia where a Christian Wake Service will be held at 6:30 PM. Father Jeff Coning and Father Matt Hoover will concelebrate a mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, March 17, 2012 at 10 AM in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church at New Philadelphia. Burial will follow in the Calvary Cemetery at New Philadelphia where members of the Carl C. Stoller Post 1445 of the New Philadelphia VFW will render military honors.

Following the service, the family wishes to invite guests to join them in the Geib Family Center at New Philadelphia where a meal and fellowship will be shared.

The family request memorial contributions in Gene’s name be directed to Community Hospice of Tuscarawas County, 716 Commercial Avenue SW, New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663.
