Gary Lee Holderbaum Sr, 62, of New Philadelphia, died Sunday, October 26, 2008 in Aultman Hospital at Canton.A son of the late Willard and Bessie (Thompson) Holderbaum, Gary was born November 23, 1945 at Dover, Ohio.Gary was a 1963 graduate of Garaway High School. He then served in Vietnam with the United States Air Force. Along with his son, he was the owner and operator of G & G Equipment Repair.He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. Gary also enjoyed riding his Harley-Davidson Motorcycle and he attended the 2008 Sturgis Bike Rally in South Dakota this past summer. His true passion in life however was his grandchildren who referred to him as Papaw.He is survived by his wife, Myrna (Lake) Holderbaum whom he married on July 13, 1974; two children, Shannon (Bill) Karcher of New Philadelphia and Gary (Christina) Holderbaum Jr of Dennison; a stepson, Dan (Vickie) Materna of Dennison; grandchildren, Tanner, Tynne, HayLey, Madison, Angel, William, A.J. and Nathan and one sister, Lynda (Will) Franks of Linden, Tennessee.Gary was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, June Pierson.Friends may call on Wednesday, October 29, 2008 from 6 to 8 p.m. in Broadway United Methodist Church at New Philadelphia and again one hour prior to the service on Thursday. A funeral service celebrating Gary’s life will be held on Thursday, October 30, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. in Broadway United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Dundee Cemetery. Following the committal service, a memorial reception will be held in the fellowship hall in Broadway United Methodist Church.
