Gary Richard Guthrie, age 59, of New Philadelphia, died Thursday, December 3, 2015 in Aultman Hospital at Canton following an unexpected illness.
A son of Eileen (Richard) Kanzigg Delaney of Saint Clairsville and the late Richard Guthrie, Gary was born at Bellaire, Ohio on June 28, 1956.
Following his graduation from Bellaire High School in 1975 Gary furthered his education at Belmont Technical College, earning an Associate of Business Degree and also obtained his certification as an airplane mechanic.
For the past 25 years, Gary was an over the road driver, working for FedEx Custom Critical, Express One and most recently, Rose Rock at Magnolia. Through his time on the road, he and his wife traveled and shared driving responsibilities together throughout the United States and Canada; making numerous friends through their travels. Gary’s partnership with his wife in business extended in the recent years as the couple became owners and operators of Gip’s Fish and Chips at New Philadelphia.
He enjoyed carving, operating RC planes and helicopters and working with model trains. He adored his Sheltie dogs, Sammy and T.J. and loved supporting his granddaughters in their activities.
In addition to his mother and step-father, Gary is survived by his wife, the former Sharon Bell; a daughter, Kaylyn Guthrie of New York; his step-children, Dana (John) Amore of Newcomerstown and Sean (companion, Amanda Pompey) Pulley of New Philadelphia; his granddaughters, Tori and Kereston and a grandson, Garyson, who is expected to arrive in April; his mother-in-law, Betty Gleitsman of New Philadelphia as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
The family will greet guests on Friday, December 11, from 4-7 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia where Pastor Ken Morrison will lead a service celebrating Gary’s life in the funeral home’s chapel at 7 PM. A meal and fellowship will follow in the Geib Family Center.
Friends are encouraged to bring special notes of remembrance and pictures of Gary to share with the family.
Gary gave the gift of life for others through anatomical donations; gifts in his memory are to be directed to LifeBanc, 4775 Richmond Rd, Cleveland, OH 44128.
