Gary Avon

Gary L. Avon, age 57 of New Philadelphia, died Thursday, August 28, 2008, following a sudden illness.Born on February 23, 1951, in Union Hospital at Dover, Gary was the son of Robert and Mabel (Kinsey) Avon.Following graduation from New Philadelphia High School in 1969, Gary began working for the former Empire-Detroit Steel Company of Dover and later retired following 31 years of service.Gary soon found great joy in a new venture as a driver for the Tuscarawas County Senior Center. He thoroughly enjoyed helping those he drove and forming relationships as he got to know each of them.For many years, Gary has been an active member of the Carl C. Stoller VFW Post 1445 always willing to lend a hand where ever needed and was often a familiar face at their frequent chicken barbeques.Additionally Gary was a sports enthusiast who enjoyed his Wednesday golf outings to Sugarcreek Golf Course and also took pleasure in watching the Cleveland Indians and the Cleveland Browns.Gary’s love for his grandchildren was perhaps one of the most notable highlights in his life, as he truly enjoyed helping out to baby-sit, attend their baseball and football games and of course helping to spoil them in any way possible.In addition to his parents, Gary is survived by his wife, Patricia; three sons, Keith (Kim) Avon of Dover, Jim (Tina) Moore of New Philadelphia, and Chris (Marci) Moore of Dover; and a sister; Laura Avon of Heath, Ohio.Fourteen grandchildren, one great-grandchild, his beloved dog and family companion, Pooh Bear as well as many friends complete the family.The family will receive guests on Sunday, August 31, 2008, from 5:00 â?? 7:00 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. In keeping with Gary’s wishes his body will be cremated through the care of Geib’s Tuscarawas Valley Crematory at Dover with the family holding private inurnment services at a later date.In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Transportation Department of the Tuscarawas County Senior Center, 425 Prospect Street, Dover, Ohio 44622.
