Garrison Immel, 93, of 751 Dover Rd., Sugarcreek, died Friday, August 30, 2002, at 9:00 PM in Walnut Hills Nursing Home at Walnut Creek following a brief illness.Born September 15, 1908 near Sugarcreek, he was a son of the late John and Amanda Hostetler Immel.He retired in 1974 from Moomaw Lumber Co. at Sugarcreek. Prior to that, he was employed at Hercules Co. at Canton.Garrison was a member of the First United Church of Christ at Sugarcreek, a former member of the Knights of Pythians at Sugarcreek, and a former member of the Sugarcreek Lions Club. He also played his banjo and managed the Hilltoppers, a popular local band, for many years. Garrison was a loving father and each month for the past 17 years, he gathered with his children for a luncheon.His wife, the former Opal Sweitzer, preceded him in death on July 17, 1987.Surviving:1 Daughter, Mrs. Wayne (Maxine) Gerber of Sugarcreek5 Sons, Doran Immel of Sugarcreek, Max (Janet) Immel of Dover, Roger Immel of Dover, Keith (Peggy) Immel of New Philadelphia and Kenneth (Marlene) Immel of Dover1 Sister, Mrs. Esther Hershberger of Sugarcreek21 Grandchildren, 28 Great-Grandchildren and 2 Great-Great Grandchildren.4 Sisters, 3 Brothers and 9 Half Brothers and Sisters are deceased.Services will be held Wednesday, September 4, 2002, at 11:00 AM in the First United Church of Christ at Sugarcreek. Rev. Carlan Helgeson will officiate and burial will follow in East Lawn Cemetery at Sugarcreek. Friends may call Tuesday from 5 to 8 PM in the Smith-Geib Funeral Home at Sugarcreek and 1 hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday. The family suggests memorials be made to the Sugarcreek Lions Club or the Women’s Guild of the First United Church of Christ.
