Frederick William Mosshart

Frederick William Mosshart of Dover, died peacefully on his eighty-ninth birthday, Monday afternoon, in Union Hospital, following a brief illness. Born January 5, 1915 in Tuscarawas County, he was a son of the late Emmanuel F. Mosshart and Cecelia Reif Mosshart. Frederick was a veteran of the United States Army. He enlisted March 1, 1941, and once the United States entered World War II, Sergeant Mosshart was deployed to the Pacific Theater. There, he earned four bronze stars in the eastern Mandates. His later deployments took him to the Southern Philippines, where he earned two additional bronze stars, the Aleutian Islands, and finally Okinawa, Japan. He was discharged on August 22, 1945. Mr. Mosshart attended the Indian Meadows Church of God, and was a past member of the Farm Bureau. He was retired from a career in the East Sparta Ceramic Tile plant, where he worked in various departments, including fabrication, carpentry and ultimately shipping. In his spare time, he enjoyed bird watching, reading; and traveling with his family. Over the years, they visited five Canadian providences, and most western states always taking time to spot any rare birds native to the region in which they were traveling. A talented musician, Mr. Mosshart played the piano, the harmonica, and the clarinet.On April 21, 1946, Frederick married his longtime sweetheart, Henrietta Bichsel. During their fifty-seven years together, they raised a daughter, Glenda Mosshart who resides in Norwalk, OH. Survivors also include a sister, Dorothy, and her husband, Thomas Russell of New Philadelphia; a former sister-in-law, Alberta Havinga of Plant City, Florida, two nephews and seven nieces; numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his two brothers, John and Eddie. Friends are invited to call Thursday, January 8, 2004, from 2PM to 4PM and 6PM to 8PM at the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory, New Philadelphia. Pastor Louise Worsham will officiate funeral services Friday at 2:00 PM in the funeral home’s chapel. Burial will follow at Evergreen Burial Park with members of Dover V.F.W. Post 3463 rendering military honors. Members of the Indian Meadows Church of God will host a reception for family and friends in the Geib Family Center, adjacent to the funeral home, following the committal service. The Mosshart family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Indian Meadows church of God, 375 East Ohio Avenue, Dover, OH, 44622.
