Frederick “Fritz” Brick, 73, passed away Monday, March 14, 2016 at Community Hospice House in New Philadelphia after a period of declining health.
A son of the late Milton and Ruth (Torgler) Brick, Fritz was born August 21, 1942 at Union Hospital in Dover, Ohio.
He graduated from New Philadelphia High School in 1960. Upon graduation, he worked for New Philadelphia Welding until he enlisted in the United States Army, where he served his country for 2 years. After he was discharged, he went on to own Fritz Brick Excavating, where he served the community for 36 years.
Fritz enjoyed many hobbies including gardening, his rose bushes, mushroom hunting, making wine and cider, and tractor pulling. He was a member of NTPA and OSTPA. He also followed in his father’s footsteps by enjoying the value of a hard day’s work. Over his life time he retained a love for animals. He would feed the deer and turkeys in the nearby woods. Most of all he loved his family and friends especially the many dogs he raised throughout his life.
Fritz is survived by his loving wife, April (May) Brick, whom he married June 12, 1970; two children, Lisa (Clint) Troyer and Fritz Brick II; two grandchildren, Lexi and Chett Troyer; two sisters, Diane (Harold) Davis and Deborah Hartke; two brothers, Terry (Paula) Brick and Gary Brick; mother-in-law, Frances May; three brothers-in-law, Tom (Aimee) May, Chuck (Peggy) May and Gene (Joyce) May; numerous nieces and nephews; special friend Bob Lewis as well as his dog Sammi.
In addition to his parents, Fritz was preceded in death by a sister Judy Brick; sister-in-law, Ginny Brick; brother-in-law, Homer Hartke; father-in-law, Charles May and good friends, Tom Taylor and Bill Westbrook.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 17 2016 from 5 – 8 PM at the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory in New Philadelphia, Ohio. A funeral service will be held Friday, March 18 at 11 AM in the funeral home with Pastor Brian Flood officiating. Burial will follow at East Avenue Cemetery.
