Frederick Charles Warfield

December 9, 1925 — April 3, 2012

Frederick C. Warfield, 86, of Magnolia and formerly of New Philadelphia, passed away Tuesday morning, April 3, 2012 in Union Hospital at Dover following a brief illness.

A son of the late Frances G. Warfield and Laura E. Warfield Lindsey, Fred was born December 9, 1925 in Napps Creek, New York.

After completing his formal education, Fred joined the United States Navy and honorably served his country during World War II.

His professional career began at I.F. Manufacturing, formerly Ridge Tool, and he was transferred to Urick Foundry in Pennsylvania. After more than 20 years of employment for the company, Fred retired. He then continued working as a night watchman for Nelson Security until October 2011 at the age of 85.

Last fall, Fred returned to New Philadelphia and continued his lifelong hobby of playing scratch-off lottery tickets.

Other areas of interest included cooking steaks at the Elks and bowling as a young man.

Fred was a member of a number of organizations including the New Philadelphia V.F.W. Post #1445, the New Philadelphia B.P.O.E. #510, the Girard American Legion Post #494, and the Sandy Valley Eagles Club #3228.

He is survived by his loving family including his children, Jackie (Mike) Mathews of New Philadelphia, Robin Warfield of Harber Creek, PA, Jo Ann (Bob) Mosberger of Magnolia, Frederick C. (Pam) Warfield, Jr. of New Philadelphia, and Mark (Kathleen) Warfield of Pennsylvania; his brother, Roger Lindsey of Inverness, Florida; his sister, Myrna Lindsey Barber of Olean, NY; 19 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; his companion, Martha Buren of PA; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Norma (Newton) Warfield; and 2 brothers, Robert and Victor Warfield.

Cremation will be cared for through Geib’s Tuscarawas Valley Crematory. A private graveside service will be held in Evergreen Burial Park where the New Philadelphia V.F.W. will render military honors.
