Fred E. Armstrong, age 53, of Gnadenhutten and formerly Port Washington, died unexpectedly at his home Saturday afternoon, July 21, 2007. Born at Dennison, July 3, 1954, he was a son of the late Wesley Eugene and Lucy Gadd Armstrong. Fred grew up in Port Washington, and was a 1972 graduate of Indian Valley South High School. Fred went to work in the Belden Brick plant at Port Washington, and moved to the Sugarcreek operation in the early 1980’s. At the time of his death, he had accumulated 35 years of service with the company, and had worked his way up to the position of Assistant Superintendent at Belden’s Plant #6 at Sugarcreek. Fred loved his job, and enjoyed the many friendships forged with his co-workers. When not at work, Fred could be found following the interests of his daughters in softball. Summertime trips to Salt Fork Lake were regular occurrences for the family where they fished and spent time as a family together. Fred leaves behind the love of his life, the former Tina L. Williamson. The couple wed November 4, 1977 and anticipated their 30th wedding anniversary later this year. Together, they reared two daughters, Kimberly Hope Armstrong (companion Tyler Burgess) of Strasburg, whom Fred had affectionately nicknamed “Hope-y”, and Sarah Ruth Armstrong of the home, whom her dad had nicknamed “Goose”.For the past six months, Fred delighted in being a grandpa to Kim and Tyler’s infant son, Landon Burgess. Together Fred and Landon would watch to Cleveland Indian’s games on the television, and anticipate a time when the two could play ball together. Survivors also include his brother Robert (Ambie) Armstrong of Newcomerstown, and sisters Marsha (Rod) Booth and Jeanie Armstrong all of Port Washington. Fred’s mother and father-in-law, Karen (Lyle) Gowins of Scio; father-in-law Robert (Arlene) Nugen of Newcomerstown; brother-in-law, Allen (Lori) Nugen of Lewis Center, Ohio, as well as numerous nieces and nephews that complete the family.
