Franklyn Eugene Schupp, 83, of Tuscarawas, died Thursday, February 12, 2009 in Union Hospital at Dover following a brief illness.A son of the late Roy and Freda (Gruenig) Schupp, Frank was born July 27, 1925 at Fry’s Valley.Frank graduated from Gnadenhutten High School in 1943. At the age of 17, he started working Joy Manufacturing, currently known as Howden-Buffalo. He spent his entire career with Joy until his retirement in 1988.On March 16, 1956, Frank married the love of his life, the former Maria Niebling. Together, the couple raised five children, Kim, Gregory, Teresa, Jan and Jean. Maria passed away on June 7, 2000.He was a member of Fry’s Valley Moravian Church as well as the Tuscarawas County Farm Bureau. Frank also served as president for the Steel Workers Union at Joy Manufacturing for many years.Frank served on the Tuscarawas Village Council and during the 1970’s, he held the office of mayor. He also served on the Tuscarawas-Warwick School District Board of Education.He was an avid gardener and he enjoyed spending time on his farm at Fry’s Valley. Frank also cherished the time spent with his family and he enjoyed the weekly Sunday afternoon visits.He is survived by his children, Kim Schupp of Tuscarawas, Gregory Schupp of New Philadelphia, Teresa (Jim) Dunaway of Gnadenhutten, Jan (Michael) Zielinski of North Royalton, Ohio and Jean Schupp of Tuscarawas and two grandchildren, Lianne and Laura Dunaway.A former daughter-in-law, Holly Schupp of Uhrichsville, a sister-in-law, Gundl (Albert) Loeffler of Oxford, North Carolina and his beloved dog, Patsy complete the family.Frank was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Maria and an infant daughter.The family will receive guests on Saturday, February 14, 2009 from 3 to 6 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. A funeral service celebrating Frank’s life will be held on Sunday, February 15, 2009 at 2:30 p.m. in Fry’s Valley Moravian Church with Rev. Patricia Honszer officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
