Frank Kolat Sr., 84, of New Philadelphia, passed away Sunday, April 3, 2016 surrounded by his loving family in Amberwood Manor at New Philadelphia following a period of declining health.
A son of the late Jack and Mary (Zoldak) Kolat, Frank was born August 15, 1931 at Mather, Pennsylvania.
Frank was employed at J & L Steel and Shannapin Mine at Bobtown, Pennsylvania. He also worked as a Federal Mine Inspector at M.S.H.A and eventually retired in 1993.
His greatest enjoyment was playing the accordion and listening to Polkas on the radio. Frank also enjoying camping and visiting casinos. He enjoyed spending time with his family and he especially cherished his grandchildren.
He leaves behind his wife of 62 years, Rose (Jarosz) Kolat whom he married on July 4, 1953; his children, Frank Kolat Jr. of Morgantown, West Virginia, Ramona (Eugene) Miceli of Brighton, Michigan, Monica (Dave) Maus, Kathleen (Mark) Drotovick and Michael (Debbie) Kolat all of New Philadelphia; 10 grandchildren, Kevin and Denise Forsythe, Joel and Alison Maus, Brittany Colvin, Danielle Gilmore, Makayla Kolat and Carson, Trey and Jackson Kolat; 3 great grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; two brothers, Jacob and John Kolat both of Cleveland, Ohio and many nieces and nephews.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Helen Kolat and a brother, George Kolat.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 7, 2016 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia with a Christian Wake service being held at 7:45 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, April 8, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. in Sacred Heart Church at New Philadelphia with Father Jeff Coning celebrating. Immediately following the service, a luncheon will be held in the Geib Family Center at New Philadelphia. In keeping with Frank’s wishes, cremation will follow the services and inurnment will take place in Calvary Cemetery at New Philadelphia at a later date.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Frank’s memory to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 139 Third Street NE, New Philadelphia, OH 44663.
