Frank Emmanuel Fantin, 89, of New Philadelphia entered his eternal home in Heaven on Thursday, December 27, 2018, in the Park Village Healthcare Center at Dover.
A son of the late John F. and Emma Louise (Visintainer) Fantin, Frank was born July 8, 1929 at Roswell, Ohio. Frank was a 1947 graduate of the former Midvale School and soon after entered into the United States Navy.
On July 4, 1962, Frank married the former M. Frances Ann Aldridge. They enjoyed 55 years of marriage until Fran’s passing on July 26, 2017. As a young man, Frank’s faith was nurtured at the former St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church at Roswell. Prior to his marriage to Fran, Frank joined Sacred Heart Catholic Church at New Philadelphia. Frank and Fran both served as Eucharistic Ministers. Frank was an active member of the Sacred Heart Church choir, a life member of the Knights of Columbus, a life member of Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus where he served as Faithful Purser. He and Fran also enjoyed vacationing in Virginia where they visited family.
Frank was also a lifetime member of the New Philadelphia Elks Lodge BPOE #510. He enjoyed gardening, working crossword puzzles, attending Central Catholic Saints basketball games, was an avid supporter and 65-year season ticket holder of New Philadelphia High School Football. He shared his voice with the Tuscarawas Philharmonic Choir and enjoyed attending Philharmonic events and previously served on the New Philadelphia Cemetery Board. He also enjoyed cheering on the Cleveland sports teams and was known for his “legendary” skills as a maker and connoisseur of Manhattans.
Frank earned an accounting degree from Union College of Commerce. His vast professional career spanned more than five decades as he worked for many years with the former Daily Times as the Circulation Manager. He later took a position with the former Ohio Savings and Trust and remained with the company for 25 years prior to his retirement from the then National City Bank as an Assistant Vice President. Always enjoying an active life, Frank then invested 13 years with Helbling’s Supply at New Philadelphia where he worked accounts payable and receivable. In 2008, Frank joined the Geib Funeral Homes as a Staff Associate and served for a handful of years prior to his official retirement.
Frank is survived by his loving son, Matthew Fantin of New Philadelphia; siblings, Norma Fantin, Victor Fantin, Daniel (Sharon) Fantin, Louis (Ruth) Fantin; sisters-in-law, Carole Fantine, Shelby Fantin and Paula Aldridge McBride; as well as many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, Fran, Frank was preceded in death by brothers, Jack Fantine, John Fantin; sister and brother-in-law, Louise and Wishard Patrick; sisters-in-law, Mary Louise Fantin and Carol Fantin; and his brother-in-law, William McBride.
The family will greet guests on Wednesday, January 2, 2018, from 4:00 – 7:00 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia where a Christian Wake service will begin at 6:45 PM and a Manhattan toast will follow.
Father Jeff Coning will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, January 3, 2018, at 10:30 AM in Sacred Heart Church. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery at New Philadelphia. A meal and fellowship will follow in St. Ambrose Hall, adjacent to the church.
The family requests memorial contributions are directed to The Frank and Fran Fantin Memorial Scholarship, c/o Sacred Heart Church 139 Third Street NE, New Philadelphia, OH 44663. This scholarship has been established to aid in tuition funds for students attending Tuscarawas Central Catholic High School.
