Frank E. Vitt, Sr., 100, of New Philadelphia, died Tuesday, March 7, 2006, at the Country Club Retirement Campus, in Dover.A son of the late Frank and Mabel Christopher Vitt, Frank was born February 9, 1906, in Joyce, Ohio.He attended school at the Ankey and Hummel Valley Schools. Frank retired in 1970 from the Reeves Steel Company, where he had worked as a machinist and die maker for 45 years. He was a long time member of Sacred Heart Church, the Knights of Columbus, United Steelworkers Local 2737, and a former member of the Forresters. His hobbies included, electric trains, attending auctions and flea markets with his wife, and repairing and collecting clocks.He is survived by his wife of 77 years, Polly L. Akers Vitt, whom he married on January 12, 1929; two sons, Frank (Veronica) Vitt, Jr. and David L. (Brenda) Vitt, both of New Philadelphia; nine grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; two step great grandchildren and good friends, Don and Frances Wemple. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Betty Kennedy; and three sisters, Julia Enama, Mary Mattevi, and Rose Yosick.Visitation will be Friday, March 10, 2006, from 1 to 3 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory in New Philadelphia, with a Christian wake service at 2:45 p.m. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home chapel, in New Philadelphia on Saturday, March 11, 2006 at 1 p.m. with Msgr. George Schlegel officiating. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in New Philadelphia.A reception will be held in the Geib Family Center, adjacent to the funeral home following the committal.Memorial contributions in memory of Frank are suggested to Sacred Heart Church, 139 Third St. NE, New Philadelphia, OH 44663
