Francis “Dan” Evans, 83, of New Philadelphia, OH passed away, Monday, September 26, 2016 in Aultman Hospital at Canton, Ohio.
A son of the late Frank and Anna (Moore) Evantz, Dan was born November 2, 1932 at Burgettstown, Pennsylvania.
Dan enjoyed everything about guns. He was a proud member of the NRA and owned his own gun repair shop, “Dan’s Gun Shop”, for a number of years in Bowerston. In his younger days, he was a member of the “Chosen Few” Motor Cycle Club.
He served as a medic in the United States Army during the Korean War and was stationed in Japan. Upon his discharge from the Army, Dan worked at Weir Cove for more than 30 years, where he was known by his CB handle, Super Duck.
In 1987, he married the love of his life, Shirleen (Wilson), in Maui, Hawaii. Dan loved traveling with Shirleen, including trips to Hawaii, Alaska, Florida and Canada. He also enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family.
In addition to his loving wife he is survived by six children; Denny (Emily) Evans, Rose Evans, Tim (Tonya) Evans, William (Laura) Evans, Crystal Evans and Cindy (Nick) Hartman; his step-children, Tandi (Steve) Slentz, Shawn Lendon, and Ron (Maggie) Lendon, who were also his caregivers; his former spouse, Rose Virden; his fur babies, Rusty, Rebel and Bear; sisters, Delores Litzinger, Bernice Truex and Barbara Pierce; 21 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Dan is preceded in death by his brothers, Dick and Albert Evans; his mother and father-in-law, Irene and John Wilson; a grandson, Christopher Evans and his beloved pa,l T-Bone.
Visitation will be held Friday, September 30, 2016 from 5 to 7pm in the Dover Geib Center. A service celebrating Dan’s life will be held Saturday, October 1, 2016 at 11am in the funeral home, with Pastor Mark Hunnicutt officiating. Burial will follow in Union Cemetery at Uhrichsville, Ohio.
