Frances M. Smitley

Frances M. Smitley, 95, of Country Club Retirement Campus in Dover, passed away Tuesday morning, July 19, 2005 in Dover.Born November 5, 1909 in New Philadelphia, Frances was the daughter of the late William and Leona (Schwartz) Wenger.After finishing her education at New Philadelphia High School, she began her professional career with the former Dover Appliance. In the summer of 1954, she married her late husband, Albert Smitley, and continued her employment with Dover Appliance for a short time. Frances was a lifelong member of Jerusalem Church and was active in the Miriam Circle.Together with her husband, Frances enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family and friends. She was also a talented pianist.She will be missed by her family that includes her brother, Max (Minnie) Wenger of New Philadelphia; a niece, Judy (John) Flinner of Dover; three nephews, William (Valerie) Wenger, Fred (Linda) Wenger, and Terry (Juanita) Wenger, all of New Philadelphia; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.Visitation will be held Thursday, July 21, 2005 from 5 to 8 p.m. and Friday, July 22 from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory in New Philadelphia. A service celebrating Frances’ life will be held immediately after visitation on Friday, beginning at 11 a.m. with Rev. Dr. Terry Downin officiating. Burial alongside her husband will follow at Evergreen Burial Park in New Philadelphia. A reception will follow in the Jerusalem Church.The family requests memorial contributions be made to the Jerusalem Church Building Fund, 1417 Stonecreek Road SW, New Philadelphia, OH 44663.
