Frances Abel

Frances “Fran” Abel, 91, a long time resident of New Philadelphia, died Monday, June 26, 2006 in Park Village Health Care Center at Dover where she was a resident for the past five years.Born November 1, 1914 in New Philadelphia, she was a daughter of the late John A. and Christina (Moran) Abel. Fran was the salutatorian of the 1931 graduating class of St. Joseph High School in Dover.Following graduation, she was employed at the office of the late Emmett Stanley, M.D of New Philadelphia and she retired from the Tuscarawas County Probate Court in 1990 after 20 years of service.She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in New Philadelphia where she served in many ministries. She was formerly active in the Ladies’ Catholic Benevolent Association, the Altar Society and the Adult Choir.Fran was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Barbara, Theresa James and Elizabeth Riedel; and four brothers, William, John, Aloysius and Gilbert. She is survived by three nieces and four nephews.Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 29, 2006 in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. with a Christian Wake Service being held at 9:45 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will then be held on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. in Sacred Heart Catholic Church at New Philadelphia with Monsignor George Schlegel officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery at New Philadelphia.The family requests that memorial contributions be made in Fran’s memory to the Sacred Heart Organ Fund, 139 Third Street NE, New Philadelphia, OH 44663.
