Forrest Dale Heid, 82, of New Philadelphia, died Saturday, October 18, 2008 in his home with his daughter, Vivian by his side.A son of the late Elmer and Grace (Barr) Heid, Forrest was born July 21, 1926 at North Industry, Ohio.On August 14, 1950, Forrest enlisted with the United States Army. He served his country as a Corporal in the 987th Armored Field Artillery Battalion. He was honorably discharged from the Army on August 16, 1952.Forrest retired from the Timken Company at Canton after 41 years of service. During those years at the Timken Company, he had worked as an electrician and a shift leader.He was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church at New Philadelphia. He was a member of the American Legion â?? Ohio Post and he enjoyed attending the Korean War Veteran’s Reunions in Laughlin, Nevada. Forrest also enjoyed fishing and tending to the gardens around his home.He is survived by his daughter, Vivian K. Heid of New Philadelphia; two sisters, Patricia (Jarrite) Moss of Mineral City and Irene (Paul) Felgenhauer of New Philadelphia; two brothers, Clarence (Sylvia) Rippel of Daley City, California and Robert (Margaret) Getchey of Dover; several nieces and nephews and a special neighbor, Susan Fox.Forrest was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, F. Ruth (Sanders) Heid and two brothers, Lawrence Heid and Gene Stauffer.Family and friends may call on Wednesday, October 22, 2008 from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. A funeral service celebrating Forrest’s life will be held on Thursday, October 23, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Chapel with Rev. Kelly Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Ridgecrest Memory Gardens at Dover. Following the committal service, a memorial reception will be held in the Geib Family Center at New Philadelphia.The family suggests that contributions be made in Forrest’s memory to Hospice of Tuscarawas County, 201 West Third Street, Dover, OH 44622 or to the American Cancer Society, 525 North Broad Street, Canfield, OH 44406.
