Floyd Eugene “Newt” Rothacher, 77, of Dennison, passed away on Sunday, March 4, 2018 in Community Hospice House at New Philadelphia following a period of declining health.
A son of the late Arthur H. Rothacher and Helen M. (Ackerman) Patterson, Floyd was born April 5, 1940 at New Philadelphia, Ohio.
Floyd was retired from Republic Steel at Massillon where he worked for 38 years. He was an avid fan of the Cleveland Indians and Browns as well as The Ohio State Buckeyes and he enjoyed fishing during his younger years.
He is survived by his wife, Mary (Riker) Rothacher whom he married on September 10, 1991; his children, Vicki Snyder of New Philadelphia, Richard Rothacher of Colorado and Stacey (Dale) Engstrom of Strasburg; his grandchildren, Amanda Seals, Josh (Christy) Fagan, Eric (Anika) Engstrom, Ryan Engstrom, Trevor Engstrom and Zoey Engstrom; his brothers, Gary (Jeanne) Rothacher, Kenneth (Arlene) Rothacher and Terry (Cindy) Rothacher; his sisters-in-law, Betty Huffman and Karen (Steven) Gloeckner; his brothers-in-law, David (Carol) Riker and Fred (Linda) Riker; the family cat, Annie; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Floyd was preceded in death by his parents; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ernest W. and Betty Riker and three brothers-in-law, Jay Huffman, Ernest E. Riker and Robert E. Riker.
In keeping with Floyd’s wishes, cremation will take place through the care of the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. The family will host a memorial service celebrating Floyd’s life on Saturday, April 14, 2018 at 2:00 PM in Dover Bible Church.
