Floyd LeRoy Dennis, Sr, age 85 of New Philadelphia, died peacefully surrounded by his family while in the care of Community Hospice House at New Philadelphia.
A son of the late Charles and Mentie (Muehlen) Dennis, Floyd was born at New Philadelphia on January 31, 1928.
He attended New Philadelphia High School and served in the United States Army Air-Corps from 1946 – 1949. Upon his return home, he began working for the former IF Manufacturing at New Philadelphia where he was employed for 33 years as a Ladleman for the company prior to his retirement in 1986.
Floyd was a member of First Church of the Brethren at New Philadelphia and enjoyed woodworking, motorcycles, drinking coffee on his porch, attending dances at local clubs and taking trips to Wheeling Island. Above all, he loved his family and looked forward to visiting with them.
He will be missed by his family that includes three children, Floyd “Bud” (Cindi) Dennis, Jr. of New Philadelphia, Gayle “Sis” (Pastor Max) Canfield of Stone Creek, and George (Leigh) Dennis of Dover; a sister, Mary West of New Philadelphia and his long-time companion, Sandi Maurer and her family.
Completing his family are his beloved grandchildren, Laci (Scott) Colletti, Cody Dennis, Mandi (Wayne) Berkshire, Trisha (Brent) Gribble, Crystal (James) Schupp, and Kaitlyn Dennis; great-grandchildren, Ethan, Noah, Dade, Paighton, Bri, Autumn, and Olivia as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Floyd was preceded in death by his wife, Helen; a son, Darold Dennis; three sisters, Clara Bradshaw, Hilda Betche and Margaret “Peg” Wolfe; three brothers, Darold R. Dennis, George Dennis, and Charles Dennis; a granddaughter, Courtney Patrick; and twin great-grandchildren, Billy and Jozee.
The family will greet guests on Tuesday, December 3, 2013 from 1:00 – 3:00 PM and 6:00 -8:00 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. A service celebrating Floyd’s life will be led by his son-in-law, Pastor Max Canfield on Wednesday, December 4, 2013 at 11:00 AM. Burial with military honors will follow in the East Avenue Cemetery at New Philadelphia. Following services, all are invited to share in a meal and fellowship in the social hall of the First Church of the Brethren.
