Floyd L. “Bud” Edwards, 70, of Newcomerstown, died Friday, April 30, 2010 in Southeastern Regional Medical Center at Cambridge, following a long illness.A son of the late Etta (Edwards) Robinson, Bud was born June 7, 1939 at Elizabeth, West Virginia.On February 13, 1962, Bud enlisted with the United States Army and honorably served his country until his discharge on January 29, 1964. Then on March 18, 1965, he married the former Cheryl Martin and he has three children, Karen, Daniel and Rhonda.Bud was an iron worker by trade and also owned and operated a farm in his spare time. He was a member of the Iron Workers Local #549 of Wheeling and the Iron Workers #550 of Canton. In his earlier years Bud worked at General Tire for ten years. Bud was also a member of the Newcomerstown American Legion Post #431, the Newcomerstown Moose Lodge #1337, the Elk Lodge #1555, and Eagles of Cambridge.An avid outdoorsman, Bud enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially at Clendening Lake and Lake Erie. Also he enjoyed camping, mushroom hunting and gardening. He was a fan of football with The Ohio State Buckeyes and the Pittsburgh Steelers being his favorite teams to watch. He also enjoyed playing cards with friends spending many hours playing Euchre.Most of all, Bud cherished his grandchildren and he enjoyed watching their sporting events and other activities they were involved in. He enjoyed giving them 4-wheeler rides and fishing at the pond. He shared many stories with them and always made them laugh.He is survived by his wife, Cheryl Edwards of the home; his children, Karen Hawkins of Carrollton, Texas, Daniel (Sarah) Edwards and Rhonda (Chad) Stephen both of Newcomerstown; five grandchildren, Sierra and Savannah Hawkins, Johnathon Sheehan and Kaylee and Brandon Stephen.Completing the family is two sisters, Rose Voegele of Winston Salem, North Carolina and Anna May Haney of Grants Pass, Oregon and three brothers, R.T. Robinson of Elizabeth, West Virginia, Mike Robinson of Newark, West Virginia and Gerald Robinson of Newark, West Virginia.Bud was preceded in death by his mother, an infant son, Terry Edwards and a brother, Frank Edwards.To honor Bud’s wishes his remains have been cremated. Services will be held Saturday, May 8th at Wesley Community Chapel, Chapel Rd. off of 258 S.W., Newcomerstown. Friends and family are invited to share memories and condolences with the Edwards family at 10 a.m. Memorial Services will begin at 11:30 a.m. Following, the Newcomerstown Veteran’s Honor Guard will perform military services. A reception for friends and family will be held at the Masonic Temple in Newcomerstown immediately after services.
