Floyd E Sherer

August 22, 1935 — April 10, 2003

Floyd E. Sherer, 67, of New Philadelphia, peacefully went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 10, 2003, at his residence, following a courageous battle with cancer.He was born August 22, 1935, in Montgomery, Michigan and was the son of Orie L. and Metha J. Dury Sherer. Floyd was a 1953 graduate of Dover High School. He worked as a truck driver for the Dover Chemical Corporation for 30 years where he also served as the Local #92 Steward. Floyd loved to work on the family farm where he raised Polled Herfords with his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also enjoyed fishing, music, yellow roses, vacationing, and family functions. He was a member of Jerusalem Church for the last 40 years, the York Volunteer Fire Department, and a former member of St. Johns United Church of Christ in Dover.Together with his wife of 44 years, Martha M. Toland Sherer, whom he married June 15, 1958, they raised two daughters, Debra (Jay) Cheslock and Julia (Lee) Espenschied and two sons, Daniel Sherer and Mike (Laurie) Sherer all of New Philadelphia. Also surviving is a brother, Dale Sherer and brother-in-law, Blake Roush both of New Philadelphia; 9 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers-in-law; 5 sisters-in-law; many nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Norma Roush and brother, Othal Sherer.Calling hours will be held on Friday, April 11, 2003, from 5-8 PM at the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home in New Philadelphia, Ohio. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 12, at 10:30 AM at the Jerusalem Church, in New Philadelphia, with Rev. Dr. Terry Downin officiating. Burial will follow at Ridgecrest Memory Gardens in Dover. A gathering of family and friends will follow at the Jerusalem Church, in New Philadelphia. Memorial contributions may be made to the Jerusalem Church, 1417 Stonecreek Rd. S.W. New Philadelphia, Oh 44663 or Hospice of Tuscarawas County, 201 W. Third Street, Dover, Oh 44622.
