Florence Elizabeth “Flossie” Klink, age 92, of Dover, and a longtime former resident of Bolivar, died peacefully early Monday evening, January 26, 2009, in Aultman Hospital at Canton. Born at Guernsey County, Ohio, May 16, 1916, Florence was a daughter of the late Burton and Margaret Bonifant Dawson. At the age of 11, Florence’s mother passed away. She was reared by her father, and step-mother, the late Ella Mummy Dawson. Best known as Flossie to her family and friends, she attended school at Old Washington. As a young lady, Florence was fiercely independent and resourceful. She began nurses training as a young adult, and worked her way through the ranks at Union Hospital to that of a Licensed Practical Nurse. For many years, she was affiliated with the former Dr. Hisrich’s office at Bolivar. She was also a familiar face at Kline’s Potato Chip’s and Howenstines Grocery, where she worked. Active in the community, Flossie was a member of the former Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion at Bolivar. She served as past-president of the Ohio China Painters Guild. Flossie attended the Somerdale Maranatha Bible Church at Somerdale. She was instrumental in the organization of the Bolivar Homecoming programs held over the years. An accomplished china painter, Flossie, for decades and until a few weeks ago, trained dozens of friends in the art of china painting. Regularly scheduled lessons in Flossie’s basement were highlights of the week for many of her students, whom she came to enjoy as friends alike. Never one to act her age, Flossie loved to bowl, and even in her eighties, enjoyed kayaking and fishing. She’ll be remembered for her energetic, highly spirited sense of humor, and for the adversity she overcame early in life to provide for her family. She leaves behind a family that includes three of her four children; William E. (wife Patricia) Frame of Leesville Lake, G. Robert (wife Julie) Frame of Newark, and Ruth L. (husband John R.)
