Fern E. Welling

Fern E. Welling, 91, of Massillon and formerly of New Philadelphia, died Sunday, November 22, 2009 in the Laurels of Massillon following a period of declining health.A daughter of the late Alfred and Addie (McPherson) Dienst, Fern was born March 21, 1918 at New Philadelphia.She was a graduate of New Philadelphia High School. She was formerly employed by Central States Can Company at Massillon and Stark Ceramic Tile at Canton.Fern was a member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ at Navarre as well as the Massillon’s Women Club.She is survived by many dear friends.Fern was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Ray L. Welling, who passed away in 1987 and a sister.Fern’s family and friends would like to express their sincere thanks to the nurses and staff at the Laurels of Massillon for their love and care for her during her time there.Friends may call on Wednesday, November 25, 2009 from 10 to 11 a.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. A service celebrating Fern’s life will follow at 11 a.m. with Rev. Elaine Tullis officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia.
