Evelyn Marie Evans, age 89, of Uhrichsville, went peacefully into the arms of Jesus, late Wednesday morning, July 23, 2008, from Beacon Pointe Nursing Center. Born at New Philadelphia, March 20, 1919, Evelyn was a daughter of the late Grover Cleveland and Emma Elizabeth March Snyder. Evelyn attended school at Dover High School and on March 15, 1948, married Robert L. Evans. They observed their sixtieth wedding anniversary this past spring. Over the years Evelyn was a homemaker first and foremost. She worked in the dietary department at Union Hospital, the former Valley Manor Nursing Home and the former H &H Drive-In outside of Dennison She was a member of the Newport United Methodist Church and previously the Grant Street United Methodist Church where she participated in the United Methodist Women and the Ladies Circle, the candy-making and shoebox ministries of the church. Evelyn loved traveling with her husband. Together, the couple made a coast to coast trip by car to see the country. The memories of that trip remained meaningful all the days of her life. Most of all, Evelyn will be remembered as an excellent cook. No family meal was complete without her “heavenly rice”. Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a son William A. (Cathy) Dill of North Middleborough, Massachusetts, and daughters; Joyce (Gene) Frantz of Dover, Becky (Wilbur) Hughey of Uhrichsville, and Sally (James) Huston of Midvale. 14 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, 9 great-great grandchildren, a sister-in-law Harriett Carnahan of Wooster, an aunt, Mary Baylor, of New Philadelphia, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins complete the family. In addition to her parents, Evelyn is preceded in death by her son, Thomas A. Dill, and daughter-in-law, Judy Dill, a granddaughter, Gale Frantz Stephens, a sister Dorothy Gilmore, and brothers; Robert and Gene Snyder.Friends are invited to call Friday afternoon from 2-4 and from 6-8 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. Pastors James and Jim Huston will lead funeral services for Mrs. Evans Saturday morning at 10:30 in the funeral home’s chapel. Burial will follow alongside her parents, in East Avenue Cemetery. Following the committal service, a meal for family and friends will follow in the Geib Family Center, adjacent to the funeral home. Those unable to attend are invited to share memories and condolences with the family by visiting the funeral home’s website.
