Evelyn J. Reiger Clutz of New Philadelphia died Tuesday morning, July 1, 2003 after a courageous battle with cancer. Her husband, Eugene, preceded her in death as did her stepdaughter Reba Parsons and a step-great-granddaughter, Julie Dugan.Evelyn is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Russell & Catherine Reiger of New Philadelphia and her sister and brother-in-law, Rose & Bob Gardner of Strasburg, who cared for her in their home the final six weeks of her life. Two special nieces and their families, Steph, Rick, Heather and T. J. Lautenschleger and Denise, Bob, Natasha and Lexi Hartline, also survive her. A nephew, who was with Evelyn during her final days, and his wife, John & Brenda Luthie of Calimesa, CA also survive. Additionally, she is survived by a stepson, Gail Clutz, step granddaughters, Wendy and her husband David Dugan and Lori Doughty as well as a step-grandson, Mark Parsons.A daughter of the late John and Nettie Schlemmer Reiger, Evelyn was born in Strasburg June 28, 1931. Two sisters, Grace Dorsey and Mary Luthie and six brothers, Fred, Paul, Ralph, Robert, Lester and Eugene Reiger, also preceded her in death.Evelyn was formerly employed by East Sparta Ceramics and South Broadway Nursing Home. She later worked as an LPN at Royal Haven Nursing Home in Strasburg and finished her nursing career at New Dawn retiring after 17 years service.She was a life-long member of St. John United Church of Christ in Strasburg. Friends and family are invited to attend the memorial service honoring her life on Thursday evening, July 3, 2003 at 7:00 PM in the church, with Rev. Gerald G. Schuessler officiating. Her body has been cremated and private graveside service will be held at a later date. The family requests memorial contributions be made to Hospice of Tuscarawas County, 201 W.
